Helpful Gamertag Info

When I first got an Xbox Live Gold membership, I thought it was great. I bought a month subscription and played on it almost every day. After the month long membership expired, I never bothered to renew it until about 2 years later. The reason for my urge to renew it was a consequence of playing the landmark Xbox 360 game, Halo 3, online. So off I went to customer friendly GameStop where I purchased a 12-month subscription with a 1-month free. When I got home, I went straight to my Xbox 360 and put the Ethernet cable back into its rightful place again-the back of my 360, so I could connect to live again. As soon as I got online, it signed in as my old gamer tag as a silver membership. Silver is where you can still connect to live but you can't immerse into the full gaming community like you can with the Gold membership. So I went to upgrade my silver membership to gold (so I thought) with the PIN number on the back of the card I received when I purchased the Gold membership. After I typed in the PIN numbers and hit continue, a pop-up came saying "Error." I got very frustrated and tried repeatedly to put the numbers in to see if it would work. After many failures, I finally called Xbox live support. The man told me that my previous account that I was trying to upgrade was deleted from their database (I forgot I had canceled it from my credit card 2 years ago). He told me I had to create a new gamer tag and forget about my other gamer tag even though it still shows up on my console. The reason the old gamer tag stays on your console is because your previous saved games save to that gamer tag...sadly I found that out the hard way. So my message here is if you cancel a membership that was using your credit card and try to get gold membership back on it by redeeming it with a subscription card, you will have to create a new gamer tag but keep your old one! Don't lose all your progress on your games like I did. If there are any questions that you may have make sure you get your answers before trying anything with your account. If you just try something you may be out some cash.

Xbox Live FAQ

How much does it cost to change my gamertag?

800 Microsoft points, which is about $10 or so.

What should I do if someone is making me mad on Xbox Live?

File a complaint against them. You can submit a bad review about them if you want to. The person may be punished. In Halo you are more likely to not play with a person if you give them bad feedback.

What do the stars mean by your gamertag, what is 'reputation', how do I get my reputation up?

Stars are your reputation. If you have 3 stars filled in, you are decent. If you have one star filled in, many gamers don't like you and have submitted bad reviews of you. If you have 5 stars, you are a liked gamer by those you have played with. You get your reputation increased from getting good reviews from people you play with. You have to be helpful and fun to play with to get people to give you some good feedback. Good luck!

Here's an important link for those of you who want to start getting xbox live.

http://forums.xbox.com/15208594/ShowPost.aspx

It's how to set it up.

Playing Team Doubles on Halo 3

When you are playing Xbox live with Halo 3 you can't do Team Doubles from the ranked play list even when you have downloaded the two free map packs required for the other ones. The reason is because you need to have the Legendary Map Pack. It cost 600 points and you can download it from the marketplace. It is not really that expensive and it is definitely worth it because the maps are cool and it allows you to do any game on Live for Halo 3 including Team Doubles which is one of my favorites.

To get the points you can buy a card from a store that sells xbox 360 or you can purchase them online with a credit card. To do it online go to xbox.com and sign in.

Then hit xbox live from the top, xbox live market place, and then in the upper right hand corner it will show your point balance. If you need more hit Add and go through the steps to purchase them. Then turn on your xbox 360, sign in, and go to marketplace to download the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack.

Enjoy!

Two Xbox Live Accounts on one Xbox

So one of the most important things I have learned about Xbox live is how to bring your Xbox live membership to a friend's console in order to each be signed in when playing on the same xbox.

It is actually very simple and makes playing games such as Halo more fun then playing from each others houses. In the case of halo 3 you are then able to play ranked matches together instead of having to sign in as a guest. This way both people can use a microphone also.

First log out of your xbox live account from the dashboard.
Then scroll to the right under you see account recovery. Go through the steps and then it will bring your friends account to your xbox. Then sign them out and log in to your account. Start the game, Halo 3 in my case, and log in to your account. Then when your friend goes to log in they will be able to pick their profile. Enjoy!

Note: When your friend goes back to their house they will have to recovery the account back to their xbox. It doesn't take very long and is worth it!

I have heard you can put your info on a flash drive and take it to a friend's house so you don't have to recover but I have not tried it myself.

Helping a Neighbor

For more info please check out my website at

1. What is Help a Neighbor?

What I want to do is to try and raise $1 million from donations, with $120,000 being my main goal so that I can pay for college without loans. My motivation for this is to be able to fund my college education and to in the process give back to the community. Currently I am looking at $30,000 a year debt for 4 years, possibly 5 if I go for a masters. I do not want to be a student who spends a good part of their working life paying off this debt.

My idea is to have people donate money to my project so that I can afford to go to college and worry about my classes and not the money. In the process I am going to give back to the people who donate me money. T

Here is how I will do it. Those who donate will have the option of deciding which one they want. I will ask that you only donate atleast $1.

If you donate $1, yes only $1, you can have your link on my links page to your site. Donating $10 will get you a link of bigger font, $20 will get you bigger font and placement higher on the page. Giving me $100 will allow you to put a 250 x 150 pixle banner on my site. Donating $200 will allow you to place a banner that is up to 500 x 150 pixels for your site that will act as a link. If you think about it, you will actually be getting many more page views than what you pay. If you get 10,000 views a $1 link is only going to cost .006 of a cent a view. A $200 banner will only cost 1.2 cents a view. Not only will you be

Or you can donate to the community service fund.

$1,000 = 1 hour of community service.

It's simple math.

In this fund I pledge to do 1 hour of community service for every $1,000 that is raised. Yes I know that is a lot, but with my goal being $1 million it would be insane for me to promise that many. As it stands I am looking at up to 1,000 hours of community service. No I will not be doing this all in a short span, but I do plan to do as many hours as I get funds for. I think this is a great way to not only help a college student out, but to also know that your money is going to be given back to the community through service in the future to help those less fortunate.

Already I have gone on three mission trips already to Detroit, Michigan, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Omaha Nebraska. I plan to go to Davison, Michigan this summer and on many other trips in college.

My goal is to keep this site running for at least five years. I will keep it up as long as I can.

What am I going to do with all this money?

If I make enough money I am going to pay for college tuition, and all the other expenses that I will have. When I go to graduate school I will pay for that also will money I have been given from this site. If I have extra money I will use some of it to go on mission trips in other counties and in the United States in order to help others out. A portion of the money will go to charity also. Anything other $1 million would definetely go to a charity, and probably around 50% of everything over college expenses would go to charities such as the food pantries, PADS, American Cancer Society, etc. I will also give about 20% of anything over my goal to scholarship funds in order to help others out. The rest of the money will be used for my future and possibly to start a another fund to help others out one day.

Thank you for your generosity

It's snowing!

So I'm pretty excited. Right now it's snowing on top of the 10" we probably have right now and there is a blizzard watch until noon tomorrow. We will probably have a snow day tomorrow!

Also today I bought Halo 3 which is an amazing game when playing on xbox live. I look forward to playing it tonight and all day tomorrow. For those of you who haven't tried it on xbox live, do it. The graphics are amazing and it is a huge improvement over it's predecessor. I just got Xbox 360 also. All I can say is the online part of this system and the ability to play xbox games and play in HD on my HD TV makes it an awesome system!

More coming tomorrow!

Saltwater Aquarium Sites

So being a hobbyist my self I am frequently looking for more resources on the hobby. For those of you who are either in the hobby or have tried to start in it, it is not an easy thing to do. Saltwater tanks are nothing like freshwater ones. They are a beauty to look at but at the same time can turn ugly without the proper knowledge and maintenance. Here are some sites that I would recommend you check out.

#1 Uberfrags.net

These are some amazing forums. I start on them because the man who owns them was actually the owner of an aquarium store I frequented and he was a friend of a friend. Here you will be able to get a ton of information. There are experts on this site who will be able to answer almost all of the questions you will have on the hobby. In addition to that there are monthly giveaways and a huge Christmas giveaway for supporters. To be a supporter it is only $25 a year which for me has paid off as I won probably $150 worth of prizes this last year. The Christmas giveaway was worth something like $8,000 or more this year. John, who is the owner, plans to have many more big giveaways throughout the year, including one coming up soon. Also there are big group buys for those in the area. If you aren't a hobbyist I would still recommend you go and check out the pictures. Some are simply stunning. Check out Gary Parr's pictures for sure!

If you join the site please send me a message. My user name is Underwater World. I will then be given a chance to win prizes through the site! I will also be able to answer some of your questions.

#2 Nano-Reef.com

The medium size forums of the three and one that I frequent. I have had good success buying from members there also.

#3 ReefCentral.com

The biggest forum board there is which anything you could imagine on the hobby. The feeling of a close knit group such as the one you find in uberfrags is not there though. Also the moderators will ban you for the littlest things.

#4 Check out your local reef clubs.

I am in a reef club myself and I enjoy it. You can find then in most major cities in the United States. If you go to Reef Central you can scroll down to reef clubs and you will see the forums for quite a few and should be able to find out in your state.

Donation Box

After a lot of searching I finally figured out how to add my Paypal button to the page. Now you can easily make a donation to my college fund!

I will keep a running total on the site so that you can see how much you have helped me out! My deadline is by next fall. I need to get as much as I can by then for my first year but then of course I will be needing about $30,000 a year for the other three years also.

Thank you for your help! For those of you who donate, you are awesome!

Now for those of you who want to add your own box, it is very simple/

1. First log in to your Paypal Account.
2. Then go to Merchant Services.
3. Select Donate under the Create Buttons title.
4. Follow the steps to create your button.
5. Then in blogger.com go to Layout, Add Gadget.
6. Then under the Basics select HTML/JavaScript
7. Copy and paste your code in and your done!

Boy did it take me forever to find out where to put it. If you just search html in gadgets you won't find it.

First Day

Today is the first day of my new blog! I have never written a blog before, but I hope that you will really enjoy this one.

I'll be truthful. The whole reason that I have started this blog is to try to make some money. It's not as you would think though. I am not just trying to make money so I can buy something I want. I am going to try to use this blog to be able to afford to go to college.

Right now I am planning on going to the University of Illinois. Even with the instate rate it's going to cost me close to $30,000 a year. That's a ton, and I definitely don't want to come out of college with a ton of debt. Instead I plan on writing a bunch on here for people to read. If you want to help support me to make college more affordable I'll leave a paypal link here. It would be awesome if those of you who read this could donate me even $1. If a thousand people did that it would be awesome. Also clicking on my ads will help me out as I will benefit from them.

Thanks for reading,

GoIllini
